Well in my case I was wanting to use as a slideshow for showcase some of my photography so I thought I should have alt tags i'm guessing there is no way to do it :(

Not sure i am an expert in SEO that i can tell you if its good or bad . But mainly i think its good for 2 reasons.
1. it uses regular text layers for content
2. it makes users stay on your page longer which is one of the most important factor in my opinion for seo .

No, sorry. those are background images without alt tags. Alt tags added only to img, not to divs.
